Inside the man’s apartment, Kevin and Inuyasha were sitting at a table while the man was standing next to a door, shaking. He had set his camera down on the table.
“Hey, you okay, man?” Kevin asked.
“Y...y...y...yeah, I’m good.” The man said.
“Uh, mind telling us your name?” Inuyasha cocked his head to the side.
“Oh, sorry, my name’s Barry. I’m a freelance photographer”, he walked into the door, which looked like a bathroom, “I’ll be right out. Make yourself at home.” He said before closing the door.
“Weird guy.” Kevin said.
“I’m more concerned about that demon than I am with this guy’s weirdness, hm?” Inuyasha got up and walked over to a desk that had a lot of pictures and newspaper clippings on it.
“What’s up?” Kevin walked over to the desk. Inuyasha picked up one of the pictures and looked at it. On it was a picture of a creature that looked similar to the snake demon. The picture was quite old, torn in a few places and discolored. Kevin looked at one of newspaper articles. On it was the same picture, with the headline “DEMON SNAKES FOUND LIVING IN SAN FRANCISCO”. On another picture was a picture of what looked like a family of the demons, living in an old run-down warehouse.
“He seems to have a lot of pictures of this demon.” Inuyasha put the picture down on the desk.
“Maybe he has a fetish with snakes or something”, Kevin then noticed another article, “Oh man. Inuyasha, look at this one.” Kevin and Inuyasha looked at the article. The headline read “SUPPOSED DEMON SNAKES FOUND DEAD IN WAREHOUSE, KILLER UNKNOWN”. There were pictures of two of the snake demons, the same ones in the pictures, lying on the floor with bullet holes all over them.
Inuyasha growled and clenched his teeth, “Who would kill a family like this?”
“Someone who must have seen the pictures in the paper, got scared and decided to go vigilante.” Kevin said. He then looked at another picture. “Hey, isn’t that the same demon we just fought?”
“It is. Maybe the demon got sick of some photographer tailing him all the time and decided to do something about it,” Inuyasha then looked over at Barry, who looked nervous, “So, these pictures your handiwork?”
“Please, I can explain those.” Barry said.
“Really? I want to hear it.” Inuyasha started walking toward him.
“A friend of mine gave those to me as a birthday gift.”
“Dude, that’s a really lame explanation.” Kevin said.
“I don’t have time for this.” Inuyasha grabbed Barry by the collar and slammed him against the wall. “Now you’re gonna’ start talking or I’m gonna’ get really mad!”
“Let me go!” Barry punched Inuyasha in the face, sending his hat flying off. Inuyasha winced from the blow, but looked back at Barry, who took one look at Inuyasha’s dog ears and started shaking. “Oh no, another demon, please, I’m begging you, I’ll tell you anything, just please don’t kill me!”
“Listen, you pathetic excuse for a person, if I wanted to kill you, you’d already be dead! So start telling the truth!” Inuyasha yelled.
“Dude, chill out. He’s trying.” Kevin said.
“Okay, I’ll talk.” Barry said as Inuyasha let go of him, “That creature’s name is Tatsumaru, and he’s a snake demon.”
“So, you know his name, is that all?” Inuyasha asked.
“I took pictures of him and his family to try and get money from a local newspaper. But after I heard about their death, I knew that it was my fault. Someone had seen the pictures and killed them because they were demons. Of course, I found out that Tatsumaru was alive and living in this city. I tried to see him, but I made the mistake of bringing my camera and that’s when he attacked me. I feel so terrible about what happened and now he wants to get revenge against me.”
“You should feel terrible, you got his family killed!” Inuyasha yelled.
“Man, you’re such a jackass.” Kevin said under his breath. Suddenly, loud banging could be heard outside the door.
“What was that?” Barry asked.
Inuyasha sniffed the air and growled, “It’s him.”
“You mean snake boy?” Kevin asked. Suddenly, two clawed hands smashed through the door.
“I know you’re in there! I can smell both of you!” Tatsumaru hissed.
“Come on, lets go!” Kevin opened up the window that led onto the fire escape. Barry ran out and started climbing down, followed by Inuyasha and Kevin. However, just as Kevin climbed out, he went back in and picked up the hat that Inuyasha had been wearing. “Don’t want to leave this here.” He then ran back out and followed the other two.

The three of them finally reached Kevin’s house after running nearly halfway across town. After they were safely inside, Kevin locked the door.
“Not sure how much good that’s gonna’ do.” He said. Suddenly, a loud noise that sounded like rumbling came from in the living room. Barry, Kevin, and Inuyasha looked at each other before they walked forward and peered over the couch. Shippo was lying on it, snoring loudly.
“Whew, thought that was another demon.” Barry said.
“No, that’s a demon. Not a very threatening one but a demon nonetheless.” Inuyasha said.
“Oh man!” Kevin picked up a bottle that had a little bit of red liquid in it. “He got into my parent’s wine cabinet! This was an heirloom too!”
“Damn it, that makes me mad”, Inuyasha looked at Shippo before he started laughing, “I would’ve loved to see him drunk.” Inuyasha then walked upstairs.
“Ah, well. I’ll worry about that later. Apparently, now that he has your scent, Barry, he can follow you wherever you go and he isn’t gonna’ stop until you’re dead or we take him out.”
“I’d like to go with option B on this one.” Barry said.
Kevin closed his eyes and brushed his hair away from his face, “So, what’s his story?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“You seem to know a lot about Tatsumaru. Anything in his past we might be able to use to defeat him?”
“How would I know that?” Barry asked with a confused look. Inuyasha then came back down the stairs. He had changed out of Kevin’s shirt and put on his kimono top.
“Ah, it feels good to get out of that tight shirt.” He said.
“Well, I guess we’d better....” Kevin was interrupted by a loud banging at the door.
“Oh no, it’s him.” Barry said.
“Guess it’s time to run again, right?” Inuyasha asked.
“Ahhhhhh!” Barry ran out the back door of Kevin’s house. Inuyasha sighed and then chased after him. Kevin was ready to follow, but he turned around and realized he had forgotten Shippo. Suddenly, two sharp claws sliced through the door, causing it to fall in two. Kevin ducked into a hallway and pressed his back against the wall to prevent Tatsumaru from seeing him. The scaly snake demon walked inside and put his nose into the air.
“Hm, I can’t smell anyone in here.” He continued to sniff the air.
“Transfusions must not have a scent if he can’t find me.” Kevin thought to himself. The snake demon then looked over on the couch.
“A fox demon? What’s one doing here? From the way it’s dressed, it must be from the feudal realm”, Tatsumaru then leaned down closer to Shippo and began sniffing him, “There’s alcohol all over him. Young ones like this shouldn’t be consuming that. I’ll have to do something.” Tatsumaru then held out his hand and another snake with red eyes came out. It curved in different directions as it descended toward Shippo. Kevin leaned out from his hiding place to watch what was going on. Suddenly, the snake made contact with Shippo. Tatsumaru closed his eyes and then Shippo and the snake were enveloped with a white light.
“What the hell is this guy doing to Shippo?” Kevin then looked at the ground and noticed the near-empty bottle of wine laying on the ground. He quietly picked it up and then dashed over toward Tatsumaru. Kevin rose the bottle up and smashed it over Tatsumaru’s head. Glass flew everywhere and Tatsumaru grabbed his head in pain.
“Augh! Who did that?!” He yelled.
Kevin raised his arm, “Guilty.” He said with a smile.
“YOU again? You’re that human who has those demon powers!”
“Yeah, that’s me. And I think I’m leaving now.” Kevin ducked a punch from Tatsumaru and retaliated with a roundhouse kick. Tatsumaru fell on his back, giving Kevin enough time to grab Shippo and fly out of the back door. Tatsumaru got to his feet and glared at the back door. He bore his fangs and thought about how he had just been defeated by that human again.
“No one stands in my way of getting revenge for my family”, he growled before wiping some blood off of his face. He then ran after them.
Some background about the snake demon is revealed in this chapter.
